Let me introduce myself
I'm Monica Hirsch, your Camp Expert for the Miami area, Brazil and Latin America
My first bunk
I spent 5 incredible summers at Robin Hood Camp in Maine
From camper to camp expert
I am also an event planner. This background in event planning, gave me strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of client needs, and a highly empathetic approach to guiding families through the camp and teen program selection process. I’m passionate about creating meaningful experiences tailored to each child’s interests and personality.
Ultimate camp highlight
My all time favorite camp activity is the 4th of July Carnival celebration. I also loved the trips to Acadia National Park. I seriously bleed scarlet.
Why I love this job
I love being a summer program advisor because it allows me to combine my passion for meaningful experiences, with learning and travel, with my background in education. I hold a master’s degree in education, and I’ve always believed that some of the most valuable learning happens outside the classroom. Helping each child find the right program—where they can grow, learn, and make lifelong memories—is incredibly rewarding. There’s nothing better than hearing how a summer at camp became a turning point in a child’s life.
My home bunk
My three kids are total camp fanatics—they all spend their summers together at Island Lake Camp and even bring friends from Uruguay along for the adventure. While my husband didn’t grow up with camp (it wasn’t really a thing in Uruguay), he’s grown to love it. Every summer, we head to the Poconos for Visiting Day, fully immersing ourselves in all the fun and activities with our kids. The only part we still haven’t warmed up to? The camp food!
Why I feel camp is a valuable experience
Camp offers a unique opportunity to try new things, build independence, and make decisions on your own—often for the first time. It's a natural tech detox, a chance to connect with others, form lasting friendships, and rediscover the joy of playing outside, just like we did when we were kids.
