Alli Sternberg
Let me introduce myself
I’m Alli Sternberg, I live in Lakeview, Chicago with my husband, my son, 11, my daughter, 9, and our 11 year old dog, and I LOVE camp! I am the Camp Expert representing families in Chicago and the surrounding areas.
My first bunk
I went to camp and teen tours for my entire childhood and I have the best memories from each summer. From being a camper and then a counselor at my day camp (shout of for Willoway!) to 3 incomparable summers on the shores of South Tea Lake at Camp Tamakwa (up in Algonquin...) and then camping and hiking my way through the west coast and Canada with Westcoast Connections and America's Adventure, my experiences and friends I made along the way are still with me today.
From camper to camp expert
Before becoming a Camp Expert, I was a Public Relations professional for 20 years, working with retail and consumer clients at some of Chicago's largest agencies. My attention to detail and my research-driven approach will be valuable to helping families choose the perfect camp. And, my hands-on experience of recently navigating the camp landscape for my own children will ensure a thoughtful and concise approach. After my PR career, I transitioned to my most challenging, but rewarding job of becoming a stay-at-home mom to my two wonderful kids. Along the way I found time to volunteer and serve as a room mother at my kid's schools, and I also launched a tie dye apparel business, because what's more summer camp than tie dye?
Ultimate camp highlight
My favorite camp activity was always color war. The kick-off at Tamakwa was always the best surprise!
Why I love this job
I'm truly excited to help families find their ideal summer experience. My services are always 100% free and completely tailored to your individual interests and needs. Let’s talk camp, teen tour, or even gap year plans, and start planning the best summers ahead!
My home bunk
My husband and I have a young-at heart Mini Aussiedoodle and two children, 9 and 11, who are both officially Camp Chi campers. My son is gearing up for his second summer at Chi and my daughter is already packing her duffles for her first summer in Lake Delton, WI. My husband spent a few enjoyable summers at Camp Thunderbird and lifeguarded at his day camp. The opportunity to give our kids the magical experience of overnight camp was a no-brainer.
Why I feel camp is a valuable experience
Overnight camp can offer kids a fun, positive opportunity to explore so many aspects of life. From making new friends and memories, unplugging from technology and exploring nature and a different perspective and building self confidence and independence by trying out new activities and interest, the personal growth and life skills they gain is immeasurable.
