Let me introduce myself

I am Jennifer Markizon, your Camp Expert for Pennsylvania and South Jersey.

My first bunk

Although I did not attend overnight camp as a child, I spent two summers as a teenager doing teen travel programs, in the US and Europe. I enjoyed it so much that I went back as a counselor in my early 20s for a 6 week camping/dorm trip that spanned the western half of the US and Canada.

From camper to camp expert

In addition to being a camp expert, I also still work part time as a pediatric physical therapist. I believe this background gives me a unique insight and knowledge of child development which helps me match every child with their perfect camp.

Ultimate camp highlight

I did not attend overnight camp but I think my favorite activity at camp would have been waterskiing as loved doing that as child in Massachusetts where I grew up!

Why I love this job

I love helping families find the right camp for their children. It is especially gratifying to help kids "find their people" and see what the right summer program can do for their self-confidence.

My home bunk

My husband and I are the proud parents of 2 teenagers and 2 rescue dogs. My son just finished his freshman year at college. While he did not attend overnight camp as a child, he did 2 teen travel programs as well as a precollege program while in high school. I truly believe these programs gave him the confidence to attend a college far from home. My daughter will be starting her senior year of high school soon. She has been at the same camp since she was 8 years old and considers camp her "happy place"

Why I feel camp is a valuable experience

Camp is such a valuable experience as it helps foster personal growth, self confidence and lifelong friendships. Having a child be screen free for the summer is an added bonus.
