My first bunk
I did not attend sleepaway camp since the convention where I lived at the time was first swim clubs and then spending the summers on the Jersey Shore. Once I was living in NYC I was asked by many new friends, where did I go to camp? I knew then that my kids were going to have that wonderful experience.
From camper to camp expert
I started in NYC in an engineering firm as that was what I studied. I then joined my family business in import/export Consumer Electronics. I moved to South Florida and became a life insurance specialist. Once my kids were of age, I started investigating Sleep Away camps. I contacted the owner of our company and soon after forged a relationship with her to join The Camp Experts & Teen Summers. Now after 22 years as a Camp Expert, and touring camps each summer, I feel I can assist and be instrumental in helping families find the perfect fit for their children while working with the criteria we together discuss at length.
Ultimate camp highlight
Tennis as I grew up playing and competing in this sport. Now pickleball is my favorite!
Why I love this job
I genuinely love helping families find their ideal summer experiences based on their unique criteria. This is not a one-size-fits-all...my recommendations are tailored to the families needs.
My home bunk
My 2 kids attended a coed camp together...that is how I got into this business. I loved the process so much. They loved camp and that is what drives me to help other families. My husband attended a camp that is now defunct, but he had a great camp experience. For the 21 years of doing this, I truly appreciate families who appreciate what I do!
Why I feel camp is a valuable experience
I feel parents and kids need a break from each other in the summer as the school year is busy and hectic and sometimes stressful. Camp introduces them to new friends, helps them gain confidence and independence. Camp helps them to become more self-reliant, more social and inquisitive. They learn new skills and experience activities that gets them to step outside of their comfort zone. Group living also teaches them to be respectful to their peers and all the staff at camp. Loosening the Digital Umbilical cord is also a great way for kids to experience the outdoors and Mother Nature.
